I use this 12 pound test, fluorocarbon leader, for sub-surface flies when fishing for smallmouth bass. This is the leader, I want to be using, when fishing for very large fish. It is not my choice for fly fishing with poppers or other floating flies. Fluorocarbon is dense, it sinks, and when I’m pulling the fly of the water, from the surface, it pulls the fly under the surface.

On the other hand, since fluorocarbon is dense, the material has a high level of abrasion resistance. The material does not stretch, like monofilament does. I think I get a better hook set with this leader. It also turns over large flies well.

These leaders are available in 2-packs. They are 9 feet long and have a pound test strength of 12 pounds.
