I prefer a 6-weight fly rod for smallmouth bass fishing. It’s the perfect weight rod to cast most of the smaller flies I use for these bass. Sometimes, I use a 7 weight for larger, heavier flies.

Paula and I have several Temple Fork Professional fly rods. We use them in sizes ranging from 5-weight to 9-weight for many species of fish. The Professional II is a great casting rod, and is a very good value for any fly fisherman. The Professional II sells for approximately $100 less than the BVK, my favorite TFO rod. The only performance difference I can find between the two is, the BVK is lighter.

We use Temple Fork fly rods because we believe they offer the performance and feel of much higher priced fly rods, at a reasonable price. We fish for smallmouth bass from boats, and there is always the possibility, we can drop one overboard, in deep water, where they can’t be recovered. I would be more disappointed if that happened to a more expensive rod and reel.

This outfit also features an Orvis Access Mid-Arbor reel. We have several of these reels too, in varying sizes. Again, I believe, for the money, this reel is a bargain. The drag is more than sufficient for most gamefish we target, in fresh water. We also use these reel for saltwater fishing, mostly for redfish and speckled trout. This may not be your best choice for a tarpon reel.

The third important component of a good smallmouth bass outfit is the fly line. There is no doubt, I prefer the Rio Smallmouth Bass Fly Line over any others available. This is a premium fly line with a premium price but I think it is worth the money.

Included with this outfit is the Temple Fork Professional II 9’ 6-Weight 4-Piece Fly Rod, Orvis Access Mid Arbor III fly reel in the new color, Black Nickel and a Rio 6-weight Smallmouth Bass fly line. Also included is, a Temple Fork Triangle Tube, rod sock, backing, and an Orvis Reel Case. We will rig this outfit for you. We do not charge for ground shipping.

This is a great outfit. I use them every time I go fishing, for smallmouth bass.
