Description
The Barbie Bug or Pink Weenie as it is often called, is an attractor fly that has been found to be a very serious fly for brook, rainbow and brown trout in the Great Smoky Mountains. To my knowledge, it was first tied and used around 2004 by Brian Courtney. It is tied exactly like the Green Weenie pattern credited to George Harvey from State College, Pennsylvania. Brian tied Green Weenies in every color imaginable back then and tested them all in the Smokies. He found, the best two colors were chartreuse and shrimp pink. The Barbie Bug, the shrimp pink version was named by Paula Begley and became a fly we sell at Little River Outfitters.
For some reason, this fly is extremely popular and it has proven to be very successful for anglers targeting wild brook trout in the Smokies. We don’t know what it looks like in nature, we just know it catches trout well.
It is offered in one size, #12.
