This fly has been one of our best selling nymphs for almost 20 years. The non-bead version sells well too. This fly has every component, that makes it a winner here in the Smoky Mountains and Southern Appalachia. It is yellow, it has peacock herl, a turkey wing case, and a gold bead. There is no doubt that this fly ranks in the top five on my list of Smokies nymph patterns.

We all assume, someone tied this fly and used it on the Tellico River to our south in the Cherokee National Forest. It had to be someone from Tellico Plains, Tennessee. We don’t know. Don Kirk says a man was selling the pattern in Chattanooga after World War I. He probably knows that for a fact because he has researched this subject for a long time.

Whoever came up with the Tellico Nymph was brilliant and we should all be thankful. This is an exceptional nymph for fly fishing in the Southern Appalachians. No person can dispute that.
