Carter’s Rubber Legged Dragon, in the color Olive, is an essential bluegill and panfish fly fishing pattern, when fishing for big fish. The secret is, this fly gets down, it looks like a dragonfly nymph and the rubber legs give the fly action that large bluegill can’t resist. The fly was invented by Carter Nelson, who guides at Calloway Gardens. The olive color matches many dragonfly nymphs. I tie them in other colors too. Cast the fly and let it sink deep, to where the large bluegills are found. Slowly retrieve, keeping your fly line tight so you can feel the strike. This fly is “Killer”. Tied in size #10.
