Description
These foam cylinders can easily be cut and shaped for making fly fishing poppers. Use a single edge razor blade to cut the cylinder to the proper length. You may also slant one end for better hookups at the tail. Slit the cylinder along the belly for inserting a hook. Wrap the hook with thread and place it in the cylinder. Apply super glue to hold the hook in place and close the cylinder slit. You can read more about how this is done by CLICKING HERE.
You may also color your popper using Sharpies or other pens. Add rubber legs on the sides, crisscrossed. You can also use rubber legs for the tail. Solid plastic eyes, sold here, are perfect for the finishing touch.
These foam cylinders are approximately 1.5” long so you can make 2 or more poppers from each one.
Use the chart below to choose a cylinder size for the hook size using a Mustad CK52S Popper Hook.
