I can’t say enough good things about the Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear nymph. It is a “must have” fly, anywhere you find a river, but especially a trout stream. Most fly fishermen who live near and fish the streams in the Great Smoky Mountains National Park know how important this fly is. Ask any experienced angler around here, what the best nymphs are, and the Gold Ribbed Hare’s Ear will be on that list along with the Pheasant Tail and Tellico Nymph.

The Hare’s Ear is tied to mimic a mayfly, many different species of mayflies depending on the size you use. The trout probably think it’s a stonefly too. You should always have this fly in your vest when fly fishing in the Smokies. It works!
