Description
The March Brown Parachute is a dry fly similar to the March Brown dry we sell except it is tied “Parachute” style. The hackle is wound around a post perpendicular to the water. This allows the fly to float lower in the waters surface film. Additionally, the angler can see the white post while fishing. Seeing your dry fly is essential to success.
The March Brown hatches in the early Spring and that exact time depends on where you are fishing. In the Smoky Mountains that usually means March or maybe April. Further north that may happen later. These mayflies may also hatch later in the higher elevation mountain streams.
Water temperature drives the mating time of the March Brown. You may find March Browns hatching at the same time as other early Spring mayflies such as the Quill Gordon or Blue Quill. Most often the March Browns begin to appear after the first sightings of those mayflies. One should always be ready for a March Brown hatch during the early Spring.
