Orvis Mirage Fluorocarbon Tippet 7X-0X 30-Meter Spool

Starting At:
$14.95

Orvis Mirage Fluorocarbon tippet is a pure 100% fluorocarbon, which is ideal for replacing tippets on leaders. It should not be used on leaders intended for dry fly fishing. Fluorocarbon sinks faster than nylon monofilament. Use mono for dry flies and poppers.

However, some anglers who use nymphs, wet flies or streamers do prefer fluorocarbon. It is denser, for better abrasion resistance. It sinks faster, which can be a benefit to many applications. Fluorocarbon has almost the same refractive value as water. It is nearly invisible to fish. Fluorocarbon does not absorb water like nylon, resulting in better knot strength.

We know many experienced fly fishermen who use fluorocarbon tippet material, tied to monofilament leaders. Fluorocarbon is more expensive than nylon monofilament material. Using this combination, you will have a leader that does not sink quickly, but a tippet section that does. That, combined with the fact that the tippet is not easily seen by trout or other gamefish, and more abrasion resistance at the fish fighting end, can be an advantage while also allowing you to save money at the same time.

7X through 0X tippet comes on a 2 ¾” spool with a built-in tippet cutter.
