Prince Nymph

Prince Nymph

Starting At:
$2.09

I want to personally talk about this fly because it is one of my favorite nymphs along with the Pheasant Tail and Tellico. The Prince Nymph was made popular by Doug Prince of California and I will forever be indebted to him. I have used this pattern in the Smoky Mountains, Eastern United States and in the Rocky Mountains. I have caught more large trout on the Prince Nymph than any other nymph. It catches smaller trout too.

The Prince Nymph is a year-round fly in the Great Smoky Mountains and the Southern Appalachians. This fly is weighted internally. That is an important component of the fly. I don’t know why trout like it so well, but they do.

Traveling with my friend Jack to fish the Madison River in Yellowstone, I tied dozens of these nymphs before each trip. We lost a lot of them in that river and we did not want to run out of Prince Nymphs. On one trip I took 8 dozen to Yellowstone. I did not run out.

If you read the Fishing Report on our website and I recommend nymphs, you will always see the Prince included in my list along with the Tellico Nymph and Pheasant Tail. I believe all three of these nymphs will catch trout in any freestone stream where wild trout live. I would never be without a Prince Nymph.
