Description
Though the dry fly version of this fly gets most of the attention during the famed Quill Gordon hatch of early spring, seasoned fly fishing anglers know the importance of this wet fly. Unlike many other mayfly species, Quill Gordon nymphs actually hatch their wings on the bottom of the stream and then swim and flip and flop up to the surface to dry their wings off. This could explain why fish are particularly vulnerable to a submerged wet fly during this hatch. If you see a fish eating just under the surface during a Quill Gordon hatch, drift this wet fly past his nose and hold on! We usually recommend fishing a Quill Gordon dry with this wet fly attached as a dropper. Add this fly to your box for maximum success during the Quill Gordon hatch.
